CHUCK GIRARD MINISTRIES P.O. BOX 33226 GRANADA HILLS, CA 91394-0026 USA Phone: 818-882-7908 chuck@chuck.org Dear Sponsor, Before you read these sheets, please realize that these requirements have been thought out over a period of many years of experience on the road. Over the years I have run into many negative situations that could have been prevented by advance instruction. I have pared these requirements down to what I feel to be necessary and minimal. I have tried not to make unusual or difficult requests. These sheets are simply for your information, so that you will know what is expected for a smooth and fruitful time of ministry from my viewpoint. I ask that you do read all the sheets, and pass the information on to whoever it is that will be handling the specific areas of responsibility. My heart is to serve, and if any of the requests seems to create an unusual difficulty for you, or raises a question, please call the office to discuss or clarify. Remember, we are very flexible and will do our best to accommodate any reasonable modification to the requirements. I want to be a blessing to you and your congregation. I am looking forward to an enjoyable and spiritually profitable time of ministry with you. In His service, Chuck Girard ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ C H U C K G I R A R D Chuck Girard is one of the pioneers in Contemporary Christian music, and continues to be a voice of the move of God in that field. Born and raised in Southern California, Chuck began playing music at an early age, forming his first singing group in his early teens. The group was called THE CASTELLS, and they hit the streets of Hollywood seeking success in the early '60's. They landed a recording contract that led to 2 national top 20 hits, 'SACRED,' and 'SO THIS IS LOVE,' on the ERA label. This early experience led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician during the "surf" era of popular music. Eventually he recorded as lead singer of the HONDELLS, singing lead on the first 2 albums on MERCURY RECORDS. The group had its biggest hit with the song "LITTLE HONDA," on which Chuck sang lead, and later on with the song "A YOUNGER GIRL," on which Chuck participated in the background vocals, this time not singing lead. Soon after this, Chuck began to realize his need for God. Having been raised in a nominal Christian background, he began a 5 year search for spiritual reality through psychedelic drugs, Eastern religions and the like, as he pursued a "hippie" life style in the '60's. This search ended in a then small church in Orange County, Calif., called CALVARY CHAPEL, where Chuck found true spiritual reality through the gospel of Jesus Christ. After his new birth in 1970, he and 4 friends began what turned out to be a 3 year ministry with the group called LOVE SONG that set unmatched precedents in Christian music for that time. LOVE SONG became the first group to play rock oriented music in the Christian setting, and gain international acceptance and popularity. The group was one of the kingpins in the early '70's revival known as THE JESUS MOVEMENT, and its ministry bore much spiritual fruit in its 3 year span. After the disbanding of LOVE SONG in 1974, Chuck continued to minister in a solo capacity, releasing his first solo album in 1974, simply entitled "CHUCK GIRARD." This album yielded his most renowned and best loved song "SOMETIMES ALLELUIA". Since then, he has released many solo albums, as well as three albums with LOVE SONG. In 1981, Chuck went through a time in his life that he describes as "a time of correction and spiritual renewal", which revolutionized his life, and as a result, his ministry as well. He received fresh commission from God, and has in recent years touched many lives with not only music and testimony, but with anointed preaching and teaching as well. No longer being exclusively committed to the concert scene, God has "enlarged his borders" to include multi-night meetings where Chuck ministers in worship and teaching, as well as worship seminars where Chuck shares from his own personal revelation of worship, bringing scriptural instruction. He has also been privileged to be a guest speaker/musician in other settings such as conferences, camps and churches. Also of prime importance in Chuck's life is renewed vision for evangelism, as God has linked up his ministry relationally with many others, forming what he sees as a "battalion" in the army of God to reach whole cities with the gospel. Many television appearances on such programs as "700 CLUB", "100 HUNTLEY STREET", and TRINITY BROADCASTING NETWORK have expanded his sphere of influence in recent times. Chuck has maintained an ongoing ministry outside the U.S., with many tours of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, South Africa and the Orient. CHUCK GIRARD MINISTRIES is a non-profit organization registered with the government to allow a greater ability to minister in more situations that may not be financially self supporting. Chuck sees a necessity for greater unity and networking of members and ministries in the Body of Christ for greater effectiveness in soul winning, and is committed to do his part to promote awareness of world missions opportunities. He is dedicated to helping implement the unity of the Church by sharing his message of worship, warfare, personal Christian growth, and taking the message of Jesus to a dying world. In 1983, Chuck released the album 'NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES'. It is still a reflection of new depths of maturity and growth that God has been building into his life. This album may still be the most powerful material that Chuck has written. His next release "FIRE AND LIGHT" on the ASAPH label, was his first work since "NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES", and is a collection that reflects Chuck's personal revelation of praise and worship. His current release, "Voice of the Wind", is a project which captures his anointing as he leads worship in a spontaneous session. The live tapes are embellished with beautiful additional sounds to create one of the most intimate and beautiful worship experiences ever recorded. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHECKLIST OF NEEDS FOR THE EVENT ELECTRONIC KEYBOARD: Please supply some type of electronic keyboard. Most churches these days have some sort of synthesizer/digital piano, and whatever you have will suffice, as long as it has MIDI capability. If you are not sure what that is, your soundman or your church keyboardist should know. There are many different kinds and brands of such keyboards today, but if your church does not own one, often someone in the congregation will have one to loan. Chuck brings some extra equipment that he uses in conjunction with the supplied piano, and the effect is well worth the effort it takes to supply the electronic keyboard. This is an obvious requirement for most, but occasionally someone will think that Chuck brings his own, or they don't really consider the need, so we include this in the sheet. If your P.A. system in the church is really inferior, please try to borrow or rent one. In any event, please try to provide the best you can get. This is an important item to the enjoyment and even the anointing of the concert. Sometimes you can borrow or rent a good system from a local band, music store or other source. Chuck does not need an elaborate system, but the better the quality, the better the concert. Chuck likes to use one microphone for vocal, and move it from position to position to enhance the flow of the concert by eliminating the need to change mics. Both positions, piano and standing vocal, should have a stand, with a "boom" stand at the keyboard. Two stage monitors are requested, one placed right to the left of the keyboard, and the other placed on the floor in front of the standing mic. The P.A. should be totally set up and ready for sound check one hour before concert time. SOUND CHECK: The sound check should occur about one hour before the concert. Please have sound man available. TAPE SALES: We request that a table be provided at the entrance of the hall for tape and CD sales. If expected attendance exceeds 300 or so, a second table may be needed. SALESPERSON: We request that you provide a volunteer to attend each table and sell tapes and CDs after the concert. Chuck will meet with that person before the concert to go over the specifics on handling tape sales. ABOUT PHONING: We do not have office staff or regular office hours. We answer the phone as much as we possibly can, but you will likely get the machine on most occasions. Please don't be frustrated, we WILL get back to you. Best time to catch us: Between 9:00 am and noon, Pacific Time, weekdays. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PLANE AND LODGING ARRANGEMENTS You will be required to provide transportation to and from your town, plus food and lodging for the duration of Chuck's stay. PLANE RESERVATIONS: Our office will make all the plane reservations and send you the information, unless arranged otherwise in advance. This enables us to book the most convenient flights for Chuck, and the most cost effective flights for you. We always seek the lowest coach class fares, and get advance purchase deals whenever possible. We will send you cost information, and would ask for a check to be sent right away for the purchase of the ticket as we do not use credit cards. One method that has worked particularly well has been for a credit card number to be faxed to the travel agency, and have that card billed for the flight This will all be worked out by phone, and we will do what is most convenient for you. Please make the office aware of any unusual situations that would effect arrival times, such as afternoon concerts, radio interviews, TV appearances, rush hour traffic factors, etc. If not told otherwise, we assume the event to be in the evening, and book flights accordingly. MEETING CHUCK AT THE AIRPORT: Chuck carries two suitcases, a couple of carry-ons, and a box of cassettes and CD's about 14"x14"x18". The vehicle meeting him should be of sufficient size to accommodate all of this as well as extra passengers, etc., that you may bring with you. Chuck usually travels alone, and you would be notified in advance if this were to change. If you should miss meeting his flight or lose track of him for any reason in the airport, go to the baggage claim area, which is where Chuck will go if you are not there to meet the flight. LODGING: Hotels or motels are required. Chuck prefers middle echelon hotels, not too fancy, such as Holiday Inn or the like. Some new budget hotels are very nice, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, etc., and have reasonable rates. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOTEL CREDIT ARRANGEMENTS It is commonly thought that reserving a room by phone with a credit card number constitutes a credit arrangement with a hotel. What in fact this does provide is to hold the room usually until 6:00 PM on the day of the booking, or, if requested, a guaranteed reservation that will hold the room all night until the guest shows up. If the guest does not show, then the room is charged to the credit card number you phoned in. If the guest does show the hotel then asks the guest for a form of payment, and will not put the room on your card number. Don't ask why it works this way, but it does. Because of this, you must make credit arrangements with the hotel in advance. You can accomplish this by establishing a line of credit for direct billing. Or an actual credit card imprint will acquire a one time credit arrangement for that one situation. Obviously, advance cash payment will also secure the room, but does not provide for any other credit privileges, such as signing for meals, etc. You need to check with the hotel to find out what they require, so that Chuck does not encounter any problems with the hotel if you are not able to personally accompany him at check-in. HOTELS FOR SUNDAY SERVICES: Sometimes the situation with Sunday services can dictate that a hotel will be needed for the day but not the night. For instance, if Chuck was doing the 6:00 PM service it would enable him to take an evening flight out, but he will still need the room for the day. Some hotels will offer a half day rate which would enable him to stay until 5:00 or so, for a reduced rate. If this is not available in such a situation, a whole day will have to be paid for, event though Chuck will not be staying the night. This is an unusual situation which does occur from time to time. If you find that this may apply, please talk it over with us. MEALS: Chuck has to eat at peculiar times depending on the schedule. He is not a breakfast eater, and usually does not eat after four hours before the event. If there is a restaurant in or near the hotel, please try to arrange for him to sign for meals. Otherwise a meal allowance or similar arrangement can be worked out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ABOUT THE OFFERING For a number of years Chuck has received compensation for his ministry by the receiving of love offerings in the service. Unless you have discussed an alternative arrangement, this is probably your agreement, and following is a short explanation of Chuck's preferences regarding the receiving of the offering. When the service falls on an "off" night, i.e., a night when there is no regular service in the church, it is requested that only the offering for Chuck's ministry be taken. Chuck prefers this to occur at the very end of the service, as he feels that the people can respond more from their hearts after having been ministered to than at some early point in the service. On regular service days, i.e., Sundays or Wednesdays, of course, the regular tithes and offerings for the church should be received . This can be done in the regular slot early on in the service, with a second offering for Chuck's ministry being received at the end of the service after Chuck ministers. Chuck requests that there be an announcement at the time the church offering is received, advising the people that there will be a second offering at the end of the service. Ordinarily, Chuck will say a few things to the people to prepare them to give, and then likes to have one of the pastors come up to pray over the offering and add any comments that he might feel appropriate. Chuck will then play something for the offertory. Please have ushers pass offering receptacles to receive the offering. Ordinarily, any checks that may be given are written to the church and one check is given Chuck from the church for the whole amount of the special offering. It is requested that whatever arrangements are necessary be made in advance to facilitate the payment of the offering to Chuck before he leaves the service. Unless agreed otherwise in advance, the expectation is that Chuck receive 100% of the special offering. CHUCK GIRARD MINISTRIES P.O.
